Sheila Y. Oliver Was An American Politician From New Jersey

Sheila Y. Oliver was a trailblazing US politician who served as the second lieutenant governor of New Jersey from 2018 until her death in 2023. A member of the Democratic Party, Oliver was the first Black woman to serve in the position, as well as the first woman of color elected to statewide office in New Jersey.

Sheila Y. Oliver was born in Newark, New Jersey, in 1952. She attended Seton Hall University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in English. After college, she worked as a teacher and administrator in the East Orange School District. Her students love her excellent teaching skills and how she makes them to understand feel confident. She was an amazing teacher during her time in the classroom.
